Eve got punished together with Adam for eating the forbidden fruit. What went wrong?
Eve doubted God by even listening to the serpent. GOD SAID DON’T EAT FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE – period! We do the same. We argue with sin when we should know better. There is no way in arguing that it might not be as bad or not have the consequences that were clearly outlined to us; or that we are “just wired like that”. You are wired any way you want to. If you desire to be wired for holiness,
righteousness, purity, altruism, you just name any good thing that is seeking the kingdom of God and it is DONE! We already have everything deposited in us, through Christ Jesus, to overcome any and everything and as soon as we seek these things (which are in His kingdom and are righteousness), they will be added to us. Means what? Means you can get rewired in no time, darling!
Adam doubted God just as much because when he accepted Eve’s offering to eat the apple, he repeated her mistake. He didn’t even argue with her about it. He blamed her, she blamed the serpent. Both blamed others instead of accepting their sin as what it was. A different attitude and response to God’s question where they were and what they did might have led to a different response to them and all of humanity. So we learn also from this that humans are blame-gamers and need to shake that habit and attitude off.
Third learning I get from this devotional is that the enemy will always offer you sinful “alternatives” or “corrected truths”. Truth is true. It needs no correction. God is perfect. Perfection needs no alternatives. Have you ever found something you considered perfect in its category and looked for an alternative? I thought so. That’s why it”s called perfect, there is nothing that compares, no alternatives. Humans are amazingly forgetful and … stu…stu…not smart to say it nicely. Phew, I’m not alone! Eyes on God and let’s progress from here: I am a sinner. I have sinned and point to no one but myself in repentance and seeking of Your forgiveness, mercy and grace, righteous, perfect, loving God!
